Why I built Keyfold
My API keys lived in .env files, notes and old chat messages, and every new AI coding tool wanted them pasted in. I wanted one locked file on my own computer, a fast way to paste a key, and a way for agents like Claude Code and Cursor to use a key without the model ever reading it. That became Keyfold. It has no account and no cloud, and the core is open source on GitHub.
What I write about
The blog covers what I work through while building Keyfold: where API keys should live, what to do after a leak, keeping .env files under control, and how AI agents and MCP change the way secrets get used. When a post compares Keyfold with another tool, it links its sources and dates them, and says where the other tool is the better choice. How the blog is written explains the process, including where AI helps.
